This is my first year teaching at Barton Creek Elementary, where I am thrilled to be joining the amazing staff and families that make this school thrive. I have previously taught in Austin ISD and completed my student teaching at BCE as a part of my Masters in Education from Texas State University.
I'm originally from Seattle, Washington where I attended the University of Washington for my undergraduate degree in Geography. Growing up in the Northwest gave me a love for nature and working with children. Prior to teaching, I worked in outdoor environmental education around the country, as an AmeriCorps Volunteer in Austin, and as a youth educator at the local Austin nonprofit LifeWorks. When I'm not at school, I spend my time doing home renovation projects with my husband Cody (who attended BCE in its early days and graduated from Westlake), cooking, gardening, running, and traveling. I am a volunteer mentor with Explore Austin and am currently taking on my sixth and final year with my eleventh grade girls. We complete a monthly outdoor adventure all school year and then embark on a week long summer wilderness trip each year. This past summer, our group camped in Colorado, practiced ice and snow skills and summited a mountain! During summer break you will often find me camping or hiking with friends and family in the Pacific Northwest as well. I look forward to an amazing year in room 310! |
